The Nehru jacket is a hip-length sleeveless tailored coat for men, created in India in the
1940s. It was popularized by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India. It is also a formal dressing for the invites to the government of India parties.
The jacket is worn on formal occasions. The jacket is typically made from dark, worsted fabrics. In formal and party wear,it is made in styles similar to Achkans or Sherwanis, and may feature elaborate embroidery. The jacket essentially blends the collar of the Achkan.
It is worn above a dress shirt or below a coat as a part of the most formal menswear three piece suit. It has a full vertical opening in the front which fastens with buttons or snaps.
